Golden Oldie Ask not what the cost of doing this will be. Ask what the cost of not doing it will be. -Rear Admiral Grace Murray Hopper *************** Two or three weeks ago (from when this 'thought' first came out) it seem to be Grace Murray Hopper day. Her story about the moth in the MARK II computer was the million dollar question on 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire', a poster recognizing the 40th anniversary of COBOL (COmmon Business Oriented Language) and Hopper's contribution to it arrived, and an automatic quote that came up without attribution was said by several to be from her. (That quotation was 'It's always easier to ask forgiveness than it is to get permission.' may be from her but I will always think of Herr Kemper, aka FB#1, when I hear it.) I found my handwritten version of the above 'cost' quote but could not verify that it came from Hopper. I have decided that I probably did not hear her say it but that it was a quote attributed to her by another speaker.
